Spring update

Ben, Chris and Mick have been busy raising the levels of the car parking and landscaping areas near the wildlife habitat area.  Lorries have been bringing in clay and subsoil which has then been levelled by the tracked excavators and compacted by the sheepsfoot roller.  During the last fortnight the team have taken in, handled, and compacted over 250 loads (2500 solid cubic metres) of engineering fill.
The marina wildlife seems undisturbed by all the activity around them!

The ‘meet the team’ Canal and River Trust evening was held at the marina on 28th April and this event gave anyone interested and volunteers a chance to meet the CRT team and to ask any questions. The feedback from the CRT was very positive.

Construction continues on our dayboat Harry and Sally. More news on her later. More information go to our Dayboat webpage

Mallards Mere is now being grazed by 38 of Parkinson Partners’ Llynn sheep. They are doing a brilliant job of keeping the grass down and firming the ground. It is hoped that all of these ewe lambs will have lambs themselves in March 2017.

Well done to Chris Hubbard, our marina manager, who has raised nearly £800 for the leukemia charity deletebloodcancer.uk.  Chris bravely ran round the marina in his Leicester City blue mankini on Sunday 15th May and we thank everyone who supported him.

The photo competition entries are coming in.  Please let us have your photos by June 1st to kimhumphreys2@gmail.com (Please note correct email address). Please send in any pictures of the Ashby Canal and the marina, including any wildlife photographs. Results will be posted on our Facebook page and our next newsletter.
